AICM was founded in 1988 and represents nearly 70 major multinational companies in the chemical industry of China, these companies’ businesses cover R&D, manufacture, transportation, distribution and disposal of chemicals. 5 of those companies ranked World Top 10 Enterprises and 28 stood among World Top 50 Chemical Enterprises. 31 companies signed Responsible Care Global Charter initiated by ICCA.

Over Years of development, AICM and these companies developed a shared vision: to contribute to the development of a harmonious society and the sustainable growth of China’s chemical industry, as the representation of the leading international chemical players in China, AICM commits to:

1.Promote Responsible Care and other globally recognized chemical management principles among all stakeholders;
2. Advocate cost-effective, science- and risk-based policies to policy makers;
3. Build up the contributive role of the chemical industry to the economy.

The particularly serious "3·21" explosion accident in Xiangshui, Jiangsu  this year caused major casualties, and the serious consequences brought serious social impacts. 

AICM communicated with various governmental departments, associations and related stakeholders and considers that the government should urge enterprises to strictly implement safety risk management and control, strengthen the management of hazardous chemicals safety production information; urge enterprises producing, operating and using hazardous chemicals to strictly implement the requirements of “one SDS, one Label”; and accelerate practical bearing of responsibility as the performance subject to curb the increasing momentum of accidents.

However, we also believe that it is necessary to implement scientific evaluation rules based on enterprises’ actual performance and evaluation results, rather than take “a sweeping approach”, or simply set the shutdown target.

 At the same time, AICM considers that Responsible Care is an effective management method and implementation means for improving companies’ performance in terms of safety and environmental protection. It is recommended that the government urge companies to commit to making continuous practical efforts in improving health, safety and environment quality under the initiative of the concept of  “Responsible Care”. It is necessary to establish a new image of chemical industry in the whole society through evaluation, announcement and dialogue on these activities and their achievements, thereby promoting the sustainable development of chemical industry.
