On July 26, 2022, AICM and the Ministry of Ecological Environment held a joint workshop on environmental management of chemical substances in Beijing. Nearly 40 representatives from the Division of Solid Waste and Chemicals Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), the Chemical Management Division of Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center (SCC), and the AICM Industrial Policy Advocacy Committee (IPAC) attended the meeting online and offline. Ms. Karin Xu, the sub-committee chair of regional regulatory exchange platform of IPAC moderated the meeting. AICM Vice Chair, IPAC Sponsor Board- Mr. Fernando Vallina, the deputy director of Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center-Ms. Zang Wenchao, the director of Division of Solid Waste and Chemicals Department of MEE-Mr. Du Kexiong, the director of Chemical Management Division of Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center-Mr. Lin Jun, the executive director of AICM-Ms. Beryl Ma, the chair of the IPAC-Ms. Wang Bing attended the meeting.
Mr. Fernando firstly delivered a speech and welcomed the experts. He said that this meeting was one of the most important activities of IPAC in 2022. And he appreciated the division of solid waste and chemicals department of the MEE, the Chemical Management Division of SCC for their strong support for this activity. Mr. Du Kexiong, delivered a speech expressing his gratitude to AICM for organizing this regulation exchange meeting. At the same time, he mentioned that the Chinese government issued the action plan for the treatment of new pollutants this year, marking the official entry of chemical environmental management into the main track of national environmental protection. We are also willing to know more about the relevant implementations of EU chemical regulations, which will help provide reference for China's chemical regulations.
Mr. Lin Jun, delivered a speech and thanked AICM for its rapid feedback after putting the request. At the same time, both parties are expected to have closer exchanges and cooperation in the future.
After that, two experts from Merck, Dr. Charlotte Krone, the head of registration, hazard communication & chemicals regulations and Dr. Michael Siebold, the head of hazard communication & chemicals regulations made a wonderful sharing on the transformation of Europe to sustainable chemistry: strategic outlook for sustainable development of chemicals.
Ms. Wang Bing, made a closing speech of the meeting. She thanked the two experts for their wonderful speeches and the organization and communication work of AICM and the Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center. At the same time, she said that IPAC was willing to have continuous exchanges with MEE and SCC on topics of common interest.
After the meeting, Ms. Beryl Ma and the main responsible colleagues of IPAC had an in-depth exchange with Mr. Lin Jun, and the project leader of SCC on the next exchange topics including: the implementation experience of EU regulations, the new pollutants action plan, and the sharing of foreign experience of endocrine disruptors.
AICM has long been committed to the improvement and development of the chemical management regulation system and widely recognized by all parties. IPAC will also continue to serve enterprises, build a platform for communication, and continue to build a scientific, reasonable and risk-based regulation and standard system.
